Cantus Vocum Genk - Belgium
The choir was founded as „ A Capellachor Schoonheid“ by Leo Van Esser in 1953 – since 1999 is the ensemble called Cantus Vocum. Since 2005 they have been directed by Jan Gabriëls.
Cantus Vocum organizes one or two concerts every year. Some major results include Christmas cantatas by G.H. Stölzel, cantatas from the Christmas Oratorio by J.S. Bach and, in 2011, the concert "Ubi caritas et amor", which featured passionate Passion and Easter music and atmospheric texts about the loss of a child.
In 2013, the choir celebrated its 60th anniversary with two concerts, "Diamonds and Pearls" and "Jubilate", featuring works by Bach, Vivaldi, Mozart and Purcell.
Last year, the program was entirely dedicated to the choir's 70th anniversary with the performance of the lesser-known but beautiful Markus Passion by Charles Wood.
Since 2006, Cantus Vocum has picked up international choir tours again. They have performed in Alsace-Lotharingia (2006), Dresden (2008), Vienna (2009), Halberstadt (2013), Barcelona (2015), Berlin (2017) and Burgundy (2022) etc.
