The Choir of Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedics of University in Porto was founded by its students in 1978. With their repertoire oriented mainly on the traditional Portuguese music they have been growing academically and in the city under direction of José Ferreira Lobo. 
After an interruption of activity in the late 1980´s another generation of students revived the choir in 1994 when the artistic and musical direction was taken over by Maestro António Sérgio Ferreira who has been conducting the choir till now. Since then, the choir has studied the most diverse styles – from big works such as “Missa Crioula” by Ariel Ramirez, “Carmina Burana” by Carl Orff,  jazz and Broadways classics as well as traditional music – Portuguese and American. They are proud of performances for outstanding personalities such as Elisabet II, the Queen of England, Dalai Lama and also numerous of sold out concerts. 
The CICBAS regularly promotes events in Porto, especially since it is recently partnered with the Association of University Volunteers - VO.U in annual promotion of a "Solidarity Concert" – its first edition took place at the Museum Nacional de Soares dos Reis. 
It is also often the choir organizes tours, having performed  in many European countries, Thailand, Hongkong and Macao.
